One of the best baby items I got for my shower was a sling called the Ultimate Baby Wrap. It’s made out of this super comfy stretchy cotton, so unlike other slings, it gently bounces when you walk. It seems to be very similar to what it would feel like to be a baby in the womb. Also, by nature of the design, it snuggles the baby very close to your own tummy and skin, so they feel very close to you.
Our baby practically lived in this the first 2 months. I would put her in and go for walks, go shopping, clean the house, etc. It allowed me to be mobile while she was comfy and could take naps. When she’d fuss, this was the one thing which would end all fussing. I’d just put her in and go for a walk. Best of all, it aids new moms to get out of the house and get some fresh air, something I found to be very key for my own well-being.
The wrap is a bit unwieldy and confusing to use at first, but there’s a DVD that shows you how to use it and after a few times you get the hang of it. Any hassle is far outweighed by the good it provides.
I’ve checked out many other slings, but they are made in such a way that you don’t get the bounce effect when you walk—-more of a jarring effect than a nice bounce and they also don’t press the baby next to your tummy like this one does. These two aspects were what made this sling so successful, in my opinion.
I own 3 slings total and the two others have sat in the closet unused.
